Tarantella di Montemarano
für Zupforchester
Kunisaku Sakai
Vorwort

Preface
Montemarano, situated in Valle di Calore, 820 M.u.M. is a village of roundabout 2000 inhabitants and belongs to the Province Avellino, Region Campagnia.
On carnival in Montemarano there is played exceptionally the Tarantella Montemaranese during three days. The original accompaniment consists of clarinets in former times (bag-pipe and shawm), accordion, tambourine and eastagnets. Sometimes singing is added. The musical groups, added by dances and female dancers walk through the village by this accompaniment. This special and difficult rhythm, (tambourine to be played) of this Tarantella draws old and young into its spell and you can hardly resist to their dancing.
This work was commanded by Pino Masullo, son of Italian emigrants and musicians, living in Switzerland (Guitar, Chiatarra Battente, Tamburello) worked on by Kunisaku Sakai.
On the 24th 02.2007 this work was originally performed by the composer himself in Tokyo.
