Vorwort
Das Wort „Fanfare“ hat verschiedene Bedeutungen: als Instrument ist die Fanfare eine ventillose Trompete (Heroldtrompete). In vielen Orten gab oder gibt es Fanfarenzüge als Musikgruppen.

Als Musikstück ist die Fanfare ursprünglich ein Trompetensignal aus Naturtönen für Jagd und Militär, früher auch als Wahrzeichen deutscher Städte, in Frankreich eine mit Blechbläsern (Hörnern) besetzte Musik. Im allgemeinen meint das Wort „Fanfare“ einen mit Signalcharakter gehaltenen Tonsatz zur Eröffnung einer Feierlichkeit oder eines Gottesdienstes.

Die vorliegende „Fanfare“ wurde komponiert zusammen mit anderen kleinen Bläserstücken für den Posaunenchor in Basel. Spielt man das Stück in der Kirche zusammen mit der Orgel, so kann der fugierte Mittelteil Takt 21-33 auch von der Orgel allein übernommen werden. Auch ist es möglich, die Bassstimme an den Tuttistellen Takte 9-12, 33-36 und 41-Schluss durch Tuba zu verstärken.

The word “Fanfare” has got different meanings: as an instrument the fanfare is a trumpet without valve (herald’s). On many places there were or there still are fanfare processions as music groups.

As a piece of music the fanfare originally was a trumpet signal for hunting and military, much earlier even the symbol of German towns, in France a music set with brass instruments ( horns). In general the word “Fanfare” means a movement with signal character for the opening of a celebration or service.

The “Fanfare” in hand was composed together with some other little wind movements for the trombone section in Basel. If the movement is played together with organ in the church, the fugue middle part bars 21-33 can be taken over by the organ only. It is as well possible to amplify the bass part by tuba at the tutti part bars 9-12, 33-36, and 41 to the end.
