Vorwort
Die „Ballade für Barbara“ für Oboe und Klavier verlangt vom Bläser eine
kultivierte und kantable Mittellage und Musizierkunst statt vordergründiger
technischer Effekte. Nach einer kurzen Einleitung trägt die Oboe zweimal
das Thema, eine einprägsame Kantilene vor. Das anfangs rein begleitende
Klavier wird in der folgenden Durchführung zum gleichberechtigten Partner und bleibt es auch in
der variierten Reprise bis zur abschließenden Coda.

The “Ballade für Barbara“ for the oboe and piano requires that the horn player have a cultivated
and cantabile middle range and playing skills, rather than play technical effects in the foreground.
After a short introduction, the oboe twice carries the theme, a catchy cantilena. The piano, purely
an accompaniment at the start, becomes an equal partner in the following development, and it
remains such in the varied reprises until the concluding coda.
