Vorwort
Die KLEINE KASSATION für 4 Hörner wurde dem Münchner Hornprofessor
Otto Schmitz, der Köll in langjähriger freundschaftlicher Verbundenheit zu
mancher Komposition für Horn anregte, zum 70. Geburtstag gewidmet.
Die Komposition ist als polyphone Freiluftmusik mit gleichermaßen lebendig
geführten Stimmen angelegt und besteht aus drei Sätzen: Einer beschwingten
Fanfare mit reizvollen Kontrasten zwischen Signal und Kantilene folgt eine
kantable Pastorale in wiegendem Wohlklang. Den Abschluß bildet das humorvolle
polka-artige „Alla Burla“ mit 2 kontrastierenden Trios.

Preface
Koell dedicated the KLEINE KASSATION for 4 horns to Otto Schmitz on the occasion
of his 70th. Birthday. A professor for horns from Munich and friend of many years,
Schmitz inspired Koell to compose several pieces. This particular piece is compiled
as polyphonic open-air music with equally vivacious voices and consists of three
movements. A bouncy fanfare with fascinating contrasts between signal and
cantilena is followed by the cantabile pastorale with a swaying, pleasurable melody.
At the end there is the polka-like “Alla Burla” with two contrasting trios.
