Vorwort
Der Triumphmarsch „ Die Einnahme der Stadt Kars“ stammt teilweise aus dem
Fragment des Opernballets „Mlada“ (1872). Gedacht war er als glanzvolle
„Prozession von Fürsten und Priestern“ in diesem Ballet. Später (1880) ergänzte
Mussorgsky das Stück um ein russisches Volkslied („alla turca“) um es als
Triumphmarsch Zar Alexander II. zu seinem 25. Jahrestag zu widmen; gleichwohl
war dieses Werk eine Auftragskomposition des Zarenhofes.
Paul Struck transkripierte den Triumphmarsch für Blasorchester und macht dieses
Kleinod nun auch damit bei uns bekannt und sicher beliebt, da es der ideale
Konzerteröffner sein wird.

Preface
The triumphal march “The Capture of Kars” partly comes from the fragment of the
opera ballet “Mlada” in 1872. It was intended as a brillant “Procession of Dukes und
Priests”, part of this ballet. Later on, in 1880 Mussorgsky completed this piece by a
Russian folksong (“alla turca”), intending to produce it as a triumphal march for
Alexander II for his 25th anniversary of being a tsar, as well this piece was a
composition, ordered by the Court of Tsar. Paul Struck, nevertheless, transcripted
this triumphal march for wind orchestra and made this jewel known best to us and
surely welcome, as it is now an ideal opener to concert.
